Delos

Delos was a major trading center in the ancient world, especially after the Romans
arrived and spent a lot of cash on new facilities. At its peak to had about 40,000
inhabitants.   It fell in 88 B.C. due to a bunch of rude invaders performing
the usual pillage action. Over the centures various artifacts were removed by looters,
some of which can now be found in museums in London and Venice.  It became an
archeological site in mid 19th century.
